Google Security Issue Email

In the past few days, Google has been busy sending me emails letting me know that they have found security issues on my email accounts.

The “2-minute checkup” is worth a look see for everyone, because there maybe some apps you gave access to that don’t need access anymore and/or you haven’t setup the 2 step verification for your Google accounts.

I do want to note, however, that if you use Outlook, DO NOT turn off less secure app access. That will turn off your GMAIL email use on Outlook.

Synchronizing Subscribed Folders Error | Solved

Outlook was displaying a reported error that it “Cannot connect to the server” and cannot synchronize subscribed folders.

send_receive error

How to fix:

1. Navigate to File >> Options >> Advanced >> scroll down to the send/receive heading >> click on the send/receive button on the right
2. On the right hand side of the send/receive groups window that opens click on the Edit button
3. Un-check the “Get folder unread count for subscribed folders”
4. Under Received mail items, check the option “User the custom behavior defined below”
5. In the window below that displays your Gmail folders just select inbox and leave the others unchecked
6. Click Ok and then exit out of options and perform a send/receive to test if it is now working

That worked for us, even though it wasn’t a GMAIL account that was giving us the error.

How to import .nk2 files into Outlook 2010

I have had luck by just copying the old Stream_AutoComplete_XXX dat file from C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache folder and renaming it to whatever the new dat file is.

Course you can try:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type outlook.exe /importnk2, and then click OK. This should import the .nk2 file into the Outlook 2010 profile.

Note After you import the .nk2 file, the contents of the file are merged into the existing nickname cache that is currently stored in your mailbox.

Or try the FIX IT for me solution provided by Microsoft. That’s worked once or twice too.
